blasting in islamabad

Two of the foreigners injured in a blast in Islamabad being taken to a hospital on Saturday.
ISLAMABAD: A woman of Turkish origin was killed and 10 other people, including eight foreigners, were wounded in a bomb attack on an upmarket restaurant here on Saturday night.
The Italian restaurant in the F-6 area was a favourite haunt by foreigners. A United States embassy spokesperson said American citizens were among the injured. Reports said a British diplomat and a Japanese journalist too were injured.
The timing of the explosion, two days ahead of the first session of the newly elected National Assembly, has raised serious concerns about the security situation in the capital.
This is the first time that foreigners have been targeted by bombers since the attack on a church in the capital’s Diplomatic Enclave in 2005.
Interior Secretary Kamal Shah ruled out a suicide attack and said the cause of the explosion was being probed.
Some media reports said the bomb was planted in a service lane adjoining the back wall of the restaurant, targeting the lawn, where many of the diners were seated. Other reports said an explosive device was hurled into the restaurant.
The attack spread panic in the area, which is a busy shopping centre. President Pervez Musharraf, Prime Minister Mohammedmian Soomro, PPP leader Asif Ali Zardari, PML(N) leader Nawaz Sharif condemned the attack
