DALAILAMA INTENTION IS NOT TO HARM TO CHAINA

'Dalai Lama shouldn't do anything harmful to Sino-India ties'
Behrampore (WB) (PTI): In the midst of China's charge that Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama was inciting violence in Tibet, India on Monday said he should not to do anything while being in this country which could harm its diplomatic relations with China.
"The Dalai Lama can stay here as India's guest but he should not do anything that harms India's diplomatic ties with China. There has been no change in this policy formulated by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru," Mukhejee said after inaugurating a college at Aurangabad in Murshidabad district.
Asked for his reaction on former Defence Minister George Fernandes' remarks on India's response to Chinese crackdown on protestors in Tibet, Mukherjee said though he spoke against China now, he had visited the country during his tenure as Defence Minister

PRIVATE JET WENT INTO THE HOUSE

Five killed in private jet crash
London (PTI): A private jet has crashed into a housing estate in Farnborough, Kent, south of London, killing all the five persons on board.
The accident occurred on Sunday afternoon when the Cessna Citation one jet, which was en route from nearby Biggin Hill airfield to France, crashed into a house and burst into flames destroying a garage.
Two pilots and three passengers, one of whom was David Leslie, former Touring Car Champion, were killed.
The house was vacant at the time of the accident, as the occupants had gone on holiday.
Police said they have found no survivors amid the flaming wreckage.
Noone on the ground was badly injured, but two people were treated for shock, they said, adding the plane got into difficulties soon after it took off from Biggin Hill.
Andrew Walters, chairman of Biggin Hill Airport, said the three passengers were on a business trip to France. The pilot had made an emergency call and asked for permission to land again immediately after the plane took off.
"Unfortunately it crashed before reaching the airport," Walters said.
Accident inspectors were rushed to the scene while eight fire engines and 40 firefighters worked to tackle the blaze.
Bodies in the wreckage have not yet been recovered. Work at the crash site has been suspended for the night and will resume today, police said.

HOW DO WE DO YOGA BETTER

Yoga
Tips and Steps to Good Yoga Posture - (By Michael Sampson)
Keeping up a good yoga posture is all it takes for you to be able to keep up with a good yoga practice.
Yoga's not only fine for achieving balance, developing calm, and making you elastic enough to make your body move to its utmost. A yoga posture can also build the inner strength.
Fighting the Cobra
This relieves slight pain in your back and tones abs.
First step: Stretch out on your stomach with legs and feet joined in together. Plant palms on the floor below shoulders with fingers facing onward.
Second step: Next is to lift the upper body by gradually lifting the head and chest, just make sure that you keep your shoulders down. (Pelvis and thighs shouldn't leave the yoga mat.)
The last step: Hold your pose for about twenty to thirty seconds as you breathe in even breaths all the way through your nose. Go back to your preliminary location and do it all over again.
Strengthens your abs
First: In the first yoga posture, you should situate yourself in a standing position with legs hip width separately, holding arms directly ahead with palms facing down.
Second: Twist your knees and squat if you want as if you're about to sit in a chair in your classroom. Make sure to center weight in your heels, lock it and don't bring hips lower than the level of your knees.
Third: Allow yourself to reach forward, and center your eyes in a straight line ahead while breathing in and breathing out all the way through the nose. Hold this yoga posture for about 20 seconds. Gradually go back to standing position, and then you can release your arms.
The Wind-Relieving Posture
This yoga posture stretches your spine and helps in the digestion of your stomach. It’s a good thing to have a good running stomach so that you will always feel fresh.
First: Recline on your rear or back. As you breathe in, drag your right knee near to your chest. Keep your left leg in a straight line and on the ground.
Second: push your shoulders and the rear side of your neck into the ground at the same time as firmly holding your knee. You can breathe for ten seconds only. This might be quick but seems longer when you execute it.
Third: Change the sides, while holding the left knee to your chest for about ten seconds. Complete this set by hugging both of your knees to your chest and holding it for another ten seconds. Do the set again.
The Upward Boat Posture
This strengthens your abs, improves your balancing ability, and also helps in digestion.
First: Sit down on the floor. Bend your knees and place feet flat on the floor.
Second: breathe in, bend back and raise heels off the ground, straightening your legs as possible as you can. Expand your arms with palms facing downward. If you find it difficult to perform, you can rest your hands beneath your knees for support. This may be a difficult yoga posture to perform but after a few practices, you will never have that difficulty again.
Third: while you hold the pose for thirty seconds, you should keep your back in a straight line, and make sure your abs are doing the work.
Practice this yoga posture all over again when you have time and you will find it easy to execute after you have continuously repeated it. A yoga posture can save your health, your digestion and your backbone so better keep it up.

HEROES IN ALGEBRAIC MATHS

Two share Abel prize for group theory in algebra

OSLO: American John Griggs Thompson and Belgian-born Jacques Tits won the 6 million kroner ($1.2 million) Abel Prize for mathematics on Thursday for their contributions to the group theory of algebra.
Professor Thompson, 75, teaches at the University of Florida, while Dr. Tits, 77, is a professor emeritus at College de France in Paris and became a French citizen in 1974.
The awards committee said the two helped shape modern group theory in algebra. The theory — also called the science of symmetries — can be used to solve such everyday challenges as a Rubik’s Cube, or be used in physics, computer science and geometry.
“The achievements of John Thompson and of Jacques Tits are of extraordinary depth and influence. They complement each other and together form the backbone of modern group theory,” the citation said. The Abel Prize, first awarded in 2003, was created by the Norwegian government and named after 19th Century Norwegian mathematician Niels Henrik Abel. Multisided figures
The committee said Professor Thompson and Dr. Tits each invented important new concepts in group theory, where mathematicians seek to understand the relation between reflections and rotations of a icosahedron, which are multisided figures.
In a popularised presentation of their work, University of Oslo mathematician Arne B. Sletsjoe used the famous Rubik’s Cube, a mechanical puzzle with six sides, each divided into smaller cubes of differing colours. Group theory would allow a mathematician to calculate the number and order of rotations needed to get of the each six sides to be a specific solid colour.Rubic’s cube
“From a group theoretic point of view, this is not so complicated,” Professor Sletsjoe wrote. However, he conceded: “To remember and to accomplish the sequences is quite another business. Rubik’s cube is not only a nice example of applied group theory, it is definitely an evidence of the fact that theory is one thing, to put it into practice is quite another.”
Professor Thompson was born in Ottawa, Kansas and graduated from Yale University in 1955 and received his doctorate from the University of Chicago in 1959.
He taught at Harvard University and then at the University of Chicago, before moving to Britain, where he spent 23 years teaching at the University of Cambridge. He now lives in Florida.
Dr. Tits was born on near Brussels, Belgium. He was admitted to the Free University of Brussels at age 14, and received his doctorate at the age of 20.
He also taught there, and at the University of Bonn in 1964, before he accepted the chair of group theory in the College de France 1973, a post he held until he retired in 2000

DALAILAMA WARNS TO CHAINA

Accused by China of ‘masterminding’ the Tibet unrest, the Dalai Lama on Thursday asked Beijing to ‘accept the reality’ as ‘lies cannot work’ in the 21st century.
The Tibetan spiritual leader, who is here in connection with a meditation workshop, said he was appealing to his "friends" across the world to express concern over Tibet.
"One thing I want to express is that it is the time for the Chinese Government or the officials concerned to accept the reality. That is more important," he told reporters in New Delhi.
"In any case, we are in the 21st century... our lies cannot work," the Dalai Lama said.
His comments come in the backdrop of persistent accusations by China that he had "masterminded" the recent violence in Tibet despite his denials.
On Saturday, the Dalai Lama will lead a prayer meeting in Rajghat, the memorial of Mahatma Gandhi, in memory of all those who have lost their lives during the recent unrest in Tibet.

Saturday, March 22, 2008 (Beijing)
Brushing aside calls for dialogue with the Dalai Lama, China on Saturday vowed to ''crush'' the ''Tibet independence forces'' as it raised to 19 the death toll in riots that rocked Lhasa last week during the most virulent anti-China protests in two decades.''China must resolutely crush the Tibet independence forces' conspiracy and sabotaging activities,'' The People's Daily, the official mouthpiece of the ruling Communist Party of China (CPC), said in its commentary today, effectively rejecting growing calls from the West for China to hold dialogue with the Dalai Lama to end the crackdown on agitators.''We must see through the secessionist forces' evil intentions'' and maintain stability and protect people's ''fundamental interests'', the commentary said.As it intensified its manhunt for the ''most wanted'' suspects and rushed more troops to the restive areas in Tibet, Sichuan and Gansu provinces, the government today said 18 civilians and a police officer were killed in the recent mob violence.China had earlier said 13 civilians were either burned or hacked to death while the Tibetan government in exile based at Dharamsala has disputed the official casualties figure and put the toll at 99.The People's Daily said the violent incidents were created by the ''Tibet independence forces'' and masterminded by the ''Dalai Lama clique'', with the ''vicious intention'' of undermining the Olympics and splitting Tibet from China.''They exposed the Dalai clique's hypocrisy in proclaiming non-violence, peaceful dialogue, not seeking independence and caring for the Tibetan people,'' the paper said.Talking tough:With the Tibet issue coming under global spotlight and pressure piling up ahead of the Olympics, which it wants to use to showcase itself to the world, China asserted that nearly 100 countries had demonstrated their support to its action to quell the unrest.''It is a clear proof that the international community is on the side of China,'' Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang was quoted as saying by a Chinese news agency.China's response came a day after US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi met the Dalai Lama in Dharamsala and demanded an ''independent, outside'' investigation into Beijing's allegation that the Tibetan spiritual leader was the instigator of the unrest. She also asked all ''freedom loving'' people to speak out against China's ''oppression'' in Tibet.Dismissing the Dalai Lama as a ''chief representative of the surf system'' and a political refugee engaged in activities of splitting China, Qin said China opposed any ''encouragement or support'' for the secessionist attempts of the ''Dalai clique'' which violated the basic principles of international relations. The Dalai Lama, who fled to India after a failed uprising against Chinese rule in 1959, has repeatedly denied charges of inciting the Lhasa riots and said he was ready to meet the Chinese leadership for a dialogue.China has insisted that the Dalai Lama must recognise Tibet and Taiwan as parts of China and undergo a ''thorough review of himself'' to create conditions for talks. The Tibet government said on Friday that 241 police officers were injured, 23 critically, in the Lhasa riots and updated the number of civilians injured from 325 to 382, including 58 seriously. The economic losses were estimated at USD 34.59 million.Police said 183 ''perpetrators'' of the riots had surrendered so far. Stepping up its clampdown, authorities on Friday released the pictures of 21 ''most wanted'' suspects.Troops have moved into the restive Tibetan areas to bolster the government crackdown on the simmering unrest. For the first time since the volcanic eruption of violence during monks-led protests Friday last that jolted the Communist leadership, China on Friday admitted that the police opened fire and wounded four protesters at Aba county in southwestern Sichuan province on Sunday.Pressure on ChinaGermany has now asked Beijing not to block channels to Tibet. The German foreign minister said, ''We want to know exactly what has happened in Tibet. He also said that China's policy of expelling journalists was harming China. In any case, the Olympics in August would bring thousands of journalists to China and then nothing could be swept under the carpet. Relations between Beijing and Berlin have been strained after Chancellor Angela Merkel received the Dalai Lama in her office last September.Protests in TokyoTibetan protesters also demonstrated in Tokyo. About 80 of them marched to the Chinese embassy and wanted to hand over a letter to the authorities. After the police prevented them, they stood outside and shouted slogans. The letter said that China should not hold the Olympics.

US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said on Friday that she has apologised to presidential hopeful Barack Obama after employees improperly viewed his passport file and stressed that a probe had been launched.''I told him that I was sorry. And I told him that I myself would be very disturbed if I learned somebody looked into my passport file,'' Rice told reporters when asked if she had talked to Obama about the incident.''Therefore, I will stay on top of it,'' Rice said as she sat down for talks with Nelson Jobim, Brazil's minister of defence who was visiting Washington. However, she did not say when she called Obama. The US presidential campaign drowned out international diplomacy at the State Department, which late on Thursday announced that two contractors were dismissed and a third subjected to disciplinary action over the unauthorised access to Obama's passport.State Department spokesmen declined to give details about the type of information accessed or the identities or political affiliations of the employees who gained access.
Pakistan's Parliament has elected former speaker and Bhutto loyalist Yousaf Raza Gilani as the nation's new prime minister.Gilani was a longtime aide to slain opposition leader Benazir Bhutto, whose party now dominates the legislature after last month's elections. He spent five years in prison under President Pervez Musharraf. He will be sworn in Tuesday by Musharraf.Gilani would then proceed to form a new government dominated by the US-backed president's foes. The new administration has also promised to restore senior judges purged when Musharraf declared a state of emergency in November. The country's chief justice, Iftikhar Mohammed Chaudhry, has been under house arrest for more than four months.Iftikhar Chaudhry releasedPakistan's state-run news agency has quoted a senior Islamabad administrator as saying ''all deposed judges are free.''President Pervez Musharraf fired and detained 60 judges in November to protect his disputed presidency from legal challenges. Most of them have been freed, but among those still held is former Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammed Chaudhry, who has been under house arrest in Islamabad for more than four months.Earlier, newly-elected premier Yousaf Raza Gilani told parliament he wanted the judges released immediately.
There is a call on the streets back home. Your party workers are increasingly calling out for you to return home and lead them in this latest democratic crisis facing Pakistan. Given the events of last week how likely or unlikely is it that demands will be met?Bhutto: The most important thing in Pakistan right now is the judicial crisis. The Pakistan People's Party (PPP) is playing its full role in protecting the judiciary. The sacking of the Chief Justice is viewed by many of us as an assault on the democratic institutions of the nation. The charges leveled against the Chief Justice are seen to be a pretext of removing a Chief Justice, who could be independent on important constitutional issues coming before the nation this year. These include whether General Musharraf can keep his uniform, whether he can be elected as President by the same assemblies and whether the ban on the two former Prime Ministers can stay in effect. So, I believe the PPP under my direction is playing its full role in Pakistan in supporting the lawyer’s movement. At the same time, I am very much in touch with my party over email and the telephone. We live in a modern age, an age of information technology, so I am able to be part of the process of fighting for the independence of the judiciary even from here, which I continue to do. However, to be part of the process of the rebuilding of democracy I plan to go back and hope to be able to do so at the end of the year.NDTV; You have been emphasising for sometime that the US be more supportive of democracy in Pakistan. In the past, because of General Musharraf’s importance as a strategic ally in the war on terror, the US listened to you politely but did not really act on your demands. There is now a perception of a new chill in US–Pak relations. Do you see it as so?Bhutto: I believe it is very strange that democracy is supported in Afghanistan but not in Pakistan. I believe that democracy is important to the people of Pakistan too. I believe that the whole issue of the Taliban and uncertainty in Afghanistan will all disappear from the radar when there is democracy in Pakistan. Lately, there have been critical comments in the media of Musharraf’s governance and his inability to stem the rise of the Taliban and the peace treaty, which has affected both NATO troops in Afghanistan and more importantly the people of Pakistan. We are facing suicide bombings outside our airports and hotels. We have had a judge that was killed. I believe that Musharraf’s political structure is totally ineffective in countering the rise of suicide bombers and dismantling militant groups, which is so important for Pakistan’s future.NDTV: Given the seriousness of this latest crisis of democracy in Pakistan, your party and Nawaz Sharif’s party have vowed to work together. Have you spoken with Mr. Sharif and are they any plans of putting up a united face?Bhutto: Mr Nawaz Sharif and I are both united on the need for free and fair elections that are open to all political parties. We also agree on the need for political and social reforms as enshrined in the Charter of Democracy. Mr Sharif and my party will continue to work from the Alliance for the Restoration of Democracy (ARD). As far as Mr Sharif working with the MMA (Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal) is concerned we have reservations with that. So, we will work with Mr Nawaz Sharif’s party through the platform of the ARD but will not substitute the ARD with the APC (All Parties Conference) because we feel it is very important for a moderate option to be available in Pakistan. General Musharraf says he was only acting on the advice of the Government and that he was constitution bound to forward the reference of the government. There are reports that if push comes to shove the axe will fall on Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz. Is there a chance that the General could escape from the crisis unscathed?Bhutto: There is a crisis in Pakistan that has gained momentum. The sacking of the Chief Justice has touched a raw nerve amongst many Pakistanis. Lawyers have protested and political parties are supporting them. Ordinary citizens have joined in these protests. The attack on the media and then the High Court in Lahore is a matter of deep concern as it shows a dismantling and disrespect towards the symbols of Pakistan's institutions. I don’t think the situation can be controlled unless deep measures are taken. For example, the Chief justice of Pakistan must be reinstated immediately. Secondly, a government of national consensus must be formed, of moderate parties, who can oversee free and fair elections. If this does not happen, I believe the situation will continue to be troublesome for General Musharraf and his regime. NDTV: General Musharraf alleges that the police action especially against the Geo TV office is a conspiracy against him and the country. Does he mean the opposition? Does he mean you? Bhutto: I have no idea what he means when he talks about a conspiracy against his government. The events that have unfolded in Pakistan have unfolded as a consequence of the sacking of the Chief Justice and certainly no one in the opposition including myself sacked the Chief Justice. This move came from the regime itself, so the buck stops at the regime’s desk. The regime really needs to confront and deal with the root cause of the problem. The root cause is really a democracy deficit. When there is a democracy deficit then obviously other institutions get attacked. When you have a dictatorship, then the dictatorship has to take undemocratic actions. It then needs a pliant judiciary to cover up for it and it needs a pliant press that does not report on the discontent. So, I think the regime really needs to grow up and confront the fact that the sacking of the Chief Justice is the catalyst to the present unrest in Pakistan and this unrest can only grow unless proactive measures are taken to diffuse the situation.NDTV: How do you perceive the events that took pace last week? Is this an attempt by the General to hold on to power? What do you see happening to the time line set of the elections?Bhutto: The timeline for the elections is set for the end of the year. There are some people who think that General Musharraf will use this present state of unrest to declare a state of emergency. But, even if he declares a state of emergency, the matter will go the Supreme Court of Pakistan and at this moment with the Bar Association up in arms and with judges themselves feeling threatened, it is unlikely that General Musharraf will be able to use the judiciary as a rubber stamp. It can’t be ruled out but it is unlikely that, that will happen.NDTV: There are many in the US and to an extent in India that believe that General Musharraf has managed to curb terror perhaps more than any civilian government could have. At this point when the world is fighting an increasingly tough battle against terror is it right to be criticising institutional structures in Pakistan instead of rallying behind what could be our best hope?Bhutto: I know that there are people in India who believe that General Musharraf could be their best hope but I am afraid that people of Pakistan have a different viewpoint. We fear for our society. When there are militant camps and Taliban regrouping in Pakistan, it not only has consequences for India and Afghanistan- who are our neighbours but also for the people of Pakistan. We have been disempowered. We too are victims of terrorism and of militancy. So, we the people of Pakistan have a stake in dismantling the militant groups and eliminating the Taliban from the tribal areas of Pakistan so that our people can be safe from suicide bombers. So that our people cannot be held hostage by militant groups who can, for example, strike India in the Parliament and bring our two countries to the verge of war. I would also ask the people of India, who think that General Musharraf is the best man to do business with, to review that stance because stability in south Asia can come not only when there is democracy in India and in Afghanistan but also in Pakistan.NDTV: But, many would say that crossborder terror really surged under your regime and under Nawaz Sharif we had the nuclear bomb so really it’s only under Musharraf that terrorism has gone down. Bhutto: I would not agree with that perception. I believe that during the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) government there was a low-level intensity Kashmiri movement. It was largely a political movement by Kashmiris of Kashmiris with no involvement of foreigners in it. During my tenure of Government there was no attack on any undisputed Indian target. Since then there have been the Bombay blast attacks, the parliament attack and also the Samjhauta Express attacks though it is premature to say who was behind that. There has also been the Kargil war. None of this happened when I was Prime Minister. In fact, instead Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and his government and subsequent governments worked together for a non attack on nuclear facilities and most importantly to transform the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) from a cultural one to an economic one. I believe that the future of South Asia lies in creating an economic zone that can tackle the problems of poverty, malnutrition and hunger that so many people in our countries face.

salmankhan statement

By Harneet Singh (The Indian Express), March 3, 2008 - 09:18 IST

He gets up in the middle of a shoot for a haircut, gets into a new controversy before he can get out of one and even preaches about media ethics. That's Salman Khan- honest in a brashy kind of way

Is it true that Hollywood heavyweight Jean-Claude Van Damme's daughter, Bianca, is acting opposite you in Veer?
Not at all. Where did that come from? Sure I met Van Damme in Dubai at the IIFA awards a couple of years back and we hit it off well. It's also true that I met his wife and daughter when they came down to India for a holiday recently but there was no talk of a film. But Bianca's a pretty girl.

Is it true that you're trying to gain weight?
Yes, I'm trying to increase my weight to almost twice of what I'm now. I'm doing regular workouts and eating right. I'm doing it for my role in Veer. With Veer, I want to separate the boys from the men. I want the boys to look like pretty girls. Since I've already worked a lot on my physique, it's not going to be so hard.Other actors take three to four years to get a six pack, I take five days.

So what is so special about Veer?
The fact that I've written the story. The idea has been with me for over 20 years now. When I started out, I wanted to be a director. There were so many stories I wanted to tell, Veer was one of them. It's the story of a warrior tribe in the 1900s and obviously, I play a warrior. It's a beautiful story of a father and a son who honour the word. Anil Sharma is directing it.

Some might say that you are taking the warrior role too seriously what with the recent news that you allegedly slapped Katrina Kaif.
I did not slap anybody. Those Barista (the place where the alleged slap was supposed to have taken place) people couldn't have said that because it didn't happen. But they (the media) still wrote the story. I want to know on what basis are they so sure that something like that happened. What I really want to know is that if I'm such a terror who keeps slapping people, why aren't people scared of me? Why do they still keep on writing all this stuff about me? They should check with me.

Maybe because you have a history of being inaccessible to the media?
I don't react to rumours and unfounded stories. If you ask me about a stupid thing that hasn't happened, then either I'll joke about it or laugh it off. What can I say to something as preposterous as this? I don't have the time to get into all this. My name is Salman Khan and I need to work for a living. I don't have the time and energy to call up every newspaper and television channel and deny or confirm every little thing that gets written or said about me. But now I'm thinking I need to do something. I'm planning something.

What are you planning?
I'm going to ask all editors to designate one person from their organisation who will come and talk to me. There should be one point person that I deal with. Like, from The Indian Express, it could be you. That way, I won't have to deal with little kids who don't know what they are talking about and have just been given a camera and pen to write whatever they want to. From now on, I'm going to insist that everyone who interviews me must have done a journalism course. By the way have you done a course?

Fortunately I have. So I hope you won't slap me?
Laughs) You're safe.

So, when was the last time you slapped anyone?
(Thinks hard) I don't remember. These days, I don't react to any kind of provocation. But I must confess that recently Govinda did something that made me feel proud of him.

Are you referring to the incident when Govinda slapped a guy?
Yeah. That guy must have really bugged him and I'm happy that he whacked him.

As a celebrity, aren't you conscious of the responsibility that you have?
Does that mean that just because we are celebrities, we have to take everything lying down and that anyone can get away riling us? Most of the time we take it but if they cross the line by ten folds, we react.

Do you respect the media?
A small section of it. I don't have a problem if people say anything about my work or my personality but don't write false stuff.

Do you want the media to only write gushy stuff about you?
Not at all. Take, for instance, this Madame Tussauds thing that happened. Everybody was going on and on about what an achievement it is.

I think it's an achievement of my fans. I didn't do self-congratulatory interviews even though I was constantly asked. I believe that I said whatever I had to say on the day itself, which was shown all over the channels. Ho gaya na... aage badhao na life ko. Even when I promote my films, I do it for my producers. I believe that there is no channel required between an actor and his audience. You can write the goriest stories about me, but if my fans believe in me then no matter what anyone writes they will come and watch my films. That's what matters.

Do you take pride in your work?
The maximum.

Then why don't you work with thinking filmmakers like, say, a Vishal Bharadwaj or a Rajkumar Hirani?
They don't approach me, that's why. They all know me, they talk to me but they don't offer me work. I'm happy in my own zone. I'm working with Subhash Ghai, Anil Sharma and David Dhawan.

Will you ever approach any director for work?
No. Why should I? Maybe to see what a different director can draw out of you? I know what I can do with myself. I feel that another person will only take from my personality. It's not that I think no end of myself but there is no end to me.

Name some of your films that you are satisfied with.
Maine Pyar Kiya, Andaz Apna Apna, Karan Arjun, Hum Aapke Hain Kaun and Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam.
Films like Love, Veergati and Suryavanshi were also good but they were made too early and I was too young.

Didn't Ashutosh Gowariker approach you for Jodhaa Akbar?
Yeah, he came to me and spoke to me a long time ago.

Are you a difficult actor to work with?
No. I'm not a difficult actor because I don't act, I react. If people understand me, then I'm the easiest guy to be around.

Then how do you explain all those horror stories of getting a haircut in the middle of the shoot?
Yeah, I do that. If I feel like having a haircut, then I will get one. What's the big deal?

Who is your biggest critic?
My father, Salim Khan. It'll be nice to hear him say that he's proud of me. He has never said that. But if does say that, then it's over!

Who are the actors you like on-screen?
I think Govinda and Aamir are fantastic. I like Shah Rukh's intensity in romance, Sanju's personality on screen, Sunny's anger on screen and Anil's dedication and sincerity. I really admire Anil because he's still standing while all his contemporaries have gone. In my opinion, the real quality of a hero is to never let your fans outgrow you.

How would you like to be remembered, say, 50 years from now?

NEW YORK (AP) - Search dogs sniffed the rubble. Rescuers aimed thermal-imaging cameras and listening devices into crevices. Some pulled at bricks with their gloved hands. Crews worked through the night and into the morning Sunday, sifting mounds of debris in search of survivors after a towering crane at a construction site toppled like a redwood across a city block, destroying buildings and killing at least four people.
Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi has claimed that the wounds of the 2002 communal riots have healed and Muslims were doing well in his state.
"The wounds of the citizens of my state have healed and they are living in peace reaping the fruits of development," Modi said in reply to a question on how he would use development to bring about communal harmony in the state.
However, he said he would be unable to heal the wounds of those people who have been raising these issues time and again as ‘this was their means to earn a livelihood’.
Abdullah intervened to say that ‘such matters’ should not be raked up constantly as it only helps in keeping the wounds unhealed.
"Time has come for us to forget these incidents and wish that those do not recur," he said.
Asked by Singh the reasons of not giving poll tickets to a single Muslim candidate, Modi countered by questioning the Congress party on choosing to field less number of Muslim candidates than in the previous elections.
He claimed that the BJP had several Muslim members at the tehsil and district levels who have won elections.
Modi parried a poser from Abdullah to analyse the defeat of former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee in the 2004 Parliamentary elections.
"It will not be proper for me to go beyond my area of work -- Gujarat," Modi added

blasting in islamabad

Two of the foreigners injured in a blast in Islamabad being taken to a hospital on Saturday.
ISLAMABAD: A woman of Turkish origin was killed and 10 other people, including eight foreigners, were wounded in a bomb attack on an upmarket restaurant here on Saturday night.
The Italian restaurant in the F-6 area was a favourite haunt by foreigners. A United States embassy spokesperson said American citizens were among the injured. Reports said a British diplomat and a Japanese journalist too were injured.
The timing of the explosion, two days ahead of the first session of the newly elected National Assembly, has raised serious concerns about the security situation in the capital.
This is the first time that foreigners have been targeted by bombers since the attack on a church in the capital’s Diplomatic Enclave in 2005.
Interior Secretary Kamal Shah ruled out a suicide attack and said the cause of the explosion was being probed.
Some media reports said the bomb was planted in a service lane adjoining the back wall of the restaurant, targeting the lawn, where many of the diners were seated. Other reports said an explosive device was hurled into the restaurant.
The attack spread panic in the area, which is a busy shopping centre. President Pervez Musharraf, Prime Minister Mohammedmian Soomro, PPP leader Asif Ali Zardari, PML(N) leader Nawaz Sharif condemned the attack

strength of medtaton

We are surrounded by negative forces like jealousy, hatred, fear, doubt, worry, despair, guilt, resentment, anger, pride hatred and anxiety. These are the dominating forces of the universe. We are constantly attacked by these negative forces day in and day out.The only medicine to fight this deadly disease is Meditation. Through Meditation we can get everlasting peace, that is what we know the "Divine Peace". To grow in light and to fulfill ourselves in light and purity we need to practice meditation regularly. What is actual Meditation?Meditation doesnot mean just sitting quietly for 15 to 20 minutes. It requires concentration. You have to calm and quieten your mind.It requires conscious effort. You have to free yourself from repetitive and unwanted thoughts that distract your attention. As you learn to calm your mind you feel a new creation is dawning inside of you. When your mind is vacant and tranquil your whole existence becomes an empty vessel. You will attract infinite peace, joy peace happiness. This is actual meditation. How many ways are their to Meditate?1. Silence your mind. Once you do that you are in a position to please and Fulfill God.2. The Second way to meditate is to empty your heart.Human heart is full of chaos and turmoil. As you empty your heart there is a Divine peace and harmony which will fill your heart.3. The third thing is through prayer.Prayer is nothing but a communion between Spirit and Form.If you pray from your heart all your fears, doubts, sorrow, resentment and anxiety will be eliminated and joy, peace and tranquility will fill your heart. How to Meditate1. First find a quiet place away from people and telephone.2. Early morning is undoubtely the most powerful time to meditate.3. Before you start meditating say to yourself 'I will be focused and calm'.4. Have light music at the back ground if you like.5. Using candles during meditation can improve your concentration.6. Take shower or atleast wash you face before you meditate.7. Meditate with the empty stomach. But if you feel hungry have a glass of juice or milk.8. Aromas have been proven to be an effective means of entering a state of relaxation.9. When you meditate keep your eyes half open.10. When negative thoughts enter, donot force them out but simply let them pass away.Breathing Techniques1. Keep your spine erect while you meditate2. You can sit on the floor or you can sit comfortably on the chair.3. Sit very relaxed.4. Proper breathing is very important so make yourself comfortable.5. Take a deep breathe and hold for a few seconds and then breathe out.6. Feel the breath is coming directly from God, so that your breathe can be easily purified.7. Each time you breathe feel that you are bringing infinite peace and happiness into your body.8. When you breathe out feel that all the negative thoughts anger, hatted, fear, doubt, resentment, guilt, and anxiety are being expelled.9. Repeat this morning and evening 20 minutes every day.10. When bad thought comes to your mind say 'Today I am at peace'. I will not allow bad thoughts to enter into me.11. When you breathe in hold for 6 seconds and breathe out. If you are on medication please consult your doctor before you start. The aim of meditation is to free yourself from all worries and unhappiness. All the negative thoughts attack your mind. The heart is much purer than the mind. Love, grace, mercy, peace, tranquility, affection are already there in the heart. Before you start Meditation 'Repeat Supreme'or Heavenly Father 400 times. By doing that your concentration will improve. It is almost a waste of time if you want to purify your mind because negative thoughts are always floating on the surface. So concentrate your attention towards your heart. It is already illuminated. It has all the good qualities you desire. So everytime when you are not able to control you mind please donot feel unhappy. But focus your attention towards your heart and within few seconds you will be able to meditate without any disturbance.Heart is like a fountain full of peace, joy and love. You can sit at the base of the fountain and enjoy it. So it is better to meditate in the heart than in the mind. From your mind you get inspiration and from your heart you get aspiration. How to Concentrate1. Find a quiet place2. Make a Black dot on the wall3. Stand 20 inches away from it.4. Concentrate on the dot.5. Then Breathe in deep and breath out.6. Feel that when you are breathing you breathe is actually coming from the dot and that the dot is also breathing in, getting its breathe from you.7. Feel there are two persons. You and the dot.8. Do it for 15 to 20 minutes every day before you start to meditate.9. If you dont want to concentrate on the dot you can concentrate on counting your heart beat mentally. As you practice doing it for few weeks you can concentrate better. Also when you meditate negative thoughts will slow down and you will have full control over your mind.
